Over 1,000 surfers will paddle out to form a massive circle, breaking the record while raising awareness for mental well-being and highlighting the ocean’s healing power.

Why It Matters

The World’s Biggest Paddle Out is not only a celebration of surf culture but also a call to action for mental health awareness. Surfers of all skill levels will unite to symbolize their shared commitment to mental wellness and the strength of community. While ocean conservation plays a significant role in the event, the primary focus is on how connecting with the ocean and each other can enhance mental health.

The Surfer Leading the Charge

Blake Johnston, a local surfer and mental health advocate, is at the forefront of this incredible event. His mission is focused on how surfing can be a powerful tool for promoting positive mental health practices. Blake’s dedication to mental health advocacy stems from his record-breaking achievement as the Guinness World Record holder for the longest surf - 40 hours straight - and his continued commitment to raising awareness and support for mental health.

In addition to organizing the paddle out, Blake is preparing to release his memoir, Swellbeing, which chronicles his personal journey and the role surfing has played in his mental health and his drive to connect people to the ocean. His leadership reflects his passion for both the surf community and mental health advocacy.

Through partnerships with Find Ya Feet and OneWave, Blake is committed to funding youth mental health workshops, furthering his mission to support the next generation’s emotional well-being.

Why We Support the Paddle Out

At SLAM Society, we believe in the power of sports to promote mental well-being and bring communities together. The World’s Biggest Paddle Out offers a unique opportunity to raise awareness about how surfing can be an effective tool for healing. Proceeds from the event will fund mental health workshops for students in every school in the shire, equipping young people with the tools they need for better emotional health.

What to Expect

Alongside the paddle out, which is expected to last three hours, the Cronulla Surf Festival

at Dunningham Park will feature live music, a surfboard demo day, and a vintage surfboard exhibition. It promises to be a day of celebration for both the surfing community and the mental health cause.

Why You Should Get Involved

Whether you're a surfer or an ocean enthusiast, the World’s Biggest Paddle Out is your chance to support a vital cause—mental health awareness and ocean conservation. It’s an opportunity to be part of something meaningful and help spread a message of healing and unity.
